Program Overview

The Future Physician Scholars program introduces high school students to the world of biomedical research through structured mentorship with physician-scientists. Students develop scientific literacy, critical appraisal skills, and produce tangible scholarly deliverables — setting themselves apart from the moment they submit college and pre-med applications.

Curriculum Modules

    Introduction to Biomedical Research

    Understanding the research cycle, formulating research questions, and navigating medical literature (PubMed, MEDLINE).

    Research Methodology Fundamentals

    Study design basics — observational vs. experimental, retrospective vs. prospective, bias identification.

  • 3

    Data Literacy & Critical Appraisal

    Reading and evaluating published studies. Understanding statistics in clinical research context.

  • 4

    Abstract Writing Workshop

    Structured guidance on writing a scientific abstract — introduction, methods, results, conclusion.

  • 5

    Poster Development & Presentation

    Design, layout, and presentation coaching for science fair and regional academic competition.

  • 6

    Research Completion & Certificate

    Final project review, mentor evaluation, and issuance of verifiable MD Scholars Research Completion Certificate.

Deliverables & Outcomes

Graduates of the Future Physician Scholars program receive a verifiable Research Completion Certificate, a completed scientific poster, and an abstract suitable for regional and school-level submission. Mentees also gain physician mentor letters of evaluation and documentation for college application research activities.
