Program Overview

Designed for undergraduate students navigating the AMCAS research activity section, this program provides hands-on research training with physician mentors. Mentees work on real datasets, develop research skills, and pursue conference abstract submission โ€” creating a portfolio that distinguishes them in a competitive applicant pool.

Curriculum Modules

    Clinical Research Fundamentals

    Research question development, IRB basics, literature review methodology, and citation management.

    Study Design & Epidemiology

    Deep dive into observational study designs, confounding, causality frameworks relevant to clinical research.

  • 3

    Dataset-Based Research Project

    Assigned to a faculty-led research project using real de-identified clinical datasets with physician supervision.

    Statistical Analysis Basics

    Introduction to SPSS/R/STATA for clinical data โ€” descriptive stats, t-tests, chi-square, regression fundamentals.

    Abstract & Manuscript Writing

    Structured writing support from abstract to full manuscript, with faculty review and editing.

  • 6

    Conference Submission & AMCAS Documentation

    Abstract submission to regional/national conferences and proper AMCAS research activity documentation support.

Deliverables & Outcomes

Pre-Med Research Scholars produce a submitted conference abstract (national or regional), AMCAS-ready research documentation, and may be eligible for co-authorship on a peer-reviewed manuscript based on project outcomes and contribution level.
